Yapı Kredi, one of Turkey’s largest private banks with 11 million active customers, needed to become more data-driven but was hampered by a 100 TB relational data warehouse and a traditional BI stack (Informatica, SAP IQ, BusinessObjects, SAS). Updating its SAS-based credit risk model was slow and laborious because rigid schemas and sequential handoffs between IT, data scientists and analysts made iterative data discovery and frequent model updates impractical.

The bank deployed Datameer on Hadoop to provide an Excel-like, self-service data-prep environment that lets business analysts and data scientists prepare and explore data together and export results to SAS. Removing rigid schemas and involving analysts sped work up significantly—data preparation is 50% faster, the process’ dependence on IT dropped dramatically (98% time reduction), and analytics use cases expanded into finance and marketing, enabling quicker model updates and faster customer insights.
