Vivint Drives Smart Home Automation With Datameer

Vivint, North America’s largest home automation company serving over 800,000 homes, connects security, HVAC, lighting, appliances and video through a central touchscreen hub to deliver smarter, safer and more energy‑efficient homes. After adopting Hadoop for analytics, Vivint found analysts were spending too much time on manual data preparation and struggled to integrate and analyze massive streaming IoT data—often thousands or millions of rows per customer—rather than producing actionable insights.

Vivint implemented Datameer on Hadoop to join, parse and sessionize terabytes of structured and unstructured device streams (thermostats, smoke alarms, locks, sensors), using a spreadsheet‑like UI that enabled rapid analyst adoption. The result was faster time-to-insight and the ability to detect occupancy/vacancy patterns, reduce false alarms, and improve device efficiency and customer experience—helping Vivint advance its leadership in connected‑home services.
