The Detroit Crime Commission (DCC), created to prevent and investigate crime in a city hit hard by budget cuts and rising criminal activity, had compiled terabytes of public and proprietary crime-related data but lacked a self-service way to join disparate datasets and run the analyses needed to identify ongoing or planned criminal activity.

By deploying Datameer’s big-data analytics on Hadoop, the DCC quickly ingested cloud and Excel-based data, used point-and-click joins and visualizations to reveal relationships and networks across criminal groups, and produced actionable reports for law enforcement—uncovering organized connections and potential future crimes and enabling ongoing proactive analysis.
