TruFare Revolutionizes AFC For Lucknow Metro

Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) is a major Mass Rapid Transit System project connecting Lucknow’s transit points to speed up the city’s growth, but it needed a secure, scalable fare-collection platform to handle large passenger volumes, prevent revenue leakage, and support multi-modal payments. Datamatics, as the prime technology provider (with partner Mikroelektronika), was engaged to deliver an Automated Fare Collection (AFC) solution that meets accessibility, security and high-throughput requirements.

Datamatics implemented a state‑of‑the‑art AFC system accepting MIFARE Ultralight C, MIFARE DESFire, Sony Felica and NFC/mobile ticketing, with TVMs (101), RCTMs (17), smart gates and a Central Clearing House System designed for up to 7 million transactions per day and support for 32 operators. The deployment across LMRC’s corridors (Phase 1A: 23 km, 21 stations; East‑West: 12.8 km, 11 stations) delivered measurable benefits: reduced operational costs, monitored access, GoSmart “One City One Card” multi‑modal payments, and a reported reduction in commuting time by about two thirds — outcomes driven by Datamatics’ AFC platform.
