Big Data Boosts Business Agility For A Global Retail Giant

Global Retail Giant, one of the world’s largest hypermarket chains with 12,300 self-service shops (including 1,528 hypermarkets) in France, needed to store and process huge daily Big Data volumes, generate ad-hoc reports for timely decision-making, and automate analytics to reduce turnaround time and improve the reporting cycle. Datamatics was engaged to address these challenges, recommending IBM Netezza Appliance and SAP BODS to meet the client’s storage, analysis and ETL requirements.

Datamatics implemented the IBM Netezza Appliance for Big Data storage and analysis and deployed SAP BODS to build a robust ETL process and synchronize with the existing SAP system. As a result, data loading time fell from 3 hours to 5 minutes, report update/refresh performance improved by 90%, report generation TAT dropped from 15–20 minutes to about 30 seconds, and the retailer gained the ability to run ad-hoc queries for faster resolution of business issues.
