Case Study: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority achieves seamless metro fare collection with Datamatics AFC solution

A Datamatics Case Study

Preview of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Case Study

How Datamatics Powered Mumbai Metro’s AFC Success

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was expanding Mumbai’s metro network with Lines 2A, 2B, and 7 and needed a reliable Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system to handle high commuter volumes with minimal downtime. The challenge was to integrate seamless ticketing across a complex transit environment while avoiding congestion, delays, and passenger frustration.

Datamatics implemented the AFC solution across 52 stations, using QR-based paper and mobile tickets along with RuPay National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) support for true interoperability. Datamatics’ solution enabled seamless access to metro services, supported multi-modal travel, and created an interoperable, NCMC-compliant system, helping set a new benchmark for transit infrastructure in India.
