Finding emerging ESG issues using Datamaran

American Electric Power (AEP), the largest electric transmission operator in the US, needed a better way to identify emerging ESG issues, benchmark against peers, and strengthen its policies amid a fast-changing regulatory landscape. AEP turned to Datamaran’s AI-driven ESG platform to support a more data-backed materiality assessment and help its sustainability team prioritize the issues most relevant to the business.

Using Datamaran, AEP conducted its first materiality assessment and identified human rights as a prominent emerging issue, alongside topics like environmental justice and just transition. As a result, AEP developed its first human rights policy for disclosure in its Corporate Sustainability Report, and Datamaran became embedded in the company’s ongoing ESG reporting and executive decision-making process.
