UMC St Radboud reduces transfusion errors to practically zero with Datalogic

UMC St Radboud, a university hospital, faced the challenge of ensuring patient safety during blood transfusions. Their manual, two-nurse check in the ward was a vulnerable point where rare but dangerous errors could occur. They sought an automated solution to eliminate this risk and turned to Datalogic for a solution using their Gryphon healthcare scanners.

Datalogic implemented a system using their Gryphon GD4100-HC and GD4430-HC scanners with the MIPS Cyber Track module. This solution automated the final check by scanning barcodes on blood bags, patient wristbands, and nurse ID cards, creating a real-time track and trace system. The results were a reduction in error rates to practically zero, enhanced patient safety, and increased efficiency as the process now only requires one nurse instead of two. UMC St Radboud was so pleased with the outcome that they began rolling the Datalogic solution out to other departments.
