RFID solution delivers 100 % reliability to Seagate’s disk cleaning line

Seagate Technology, a global manufacturer of disc drives, faced a significant challenge in achieving 100% reliability for its automated disk cleaning line. Their prior manual and barcode tracking methods were prone to human error and could not survive the process environment, leading to product scrap. They partnered with vendor Datalogic to find a solution that provided complete traceability and real-time control.

Datalogic, through its Escort Memory Systems RFID technology, provided a solution using HF-0405 controllers and HMS108 tags. This system was integrated into the conveyor to read and write data at every decision point, ensuring perfect routing. The results were exceptional, with over 15,000 read/write cycles completed without a single failure. This eliminated mis-processing and scrapping, delivering the required 100% reliability for Seagate.
