Public Transportation Company Pioneers Automation Project

Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM), Milan’s public transportation company, needed a better way to manage spare parts across more than twenty maintenance workshops for its fleet of trains, buses, and trams. With manual, paper-based processes causing overloaded staff, inventory errors, and delays in vehicle repairs, ATM turned to Datalogic and its PowerScan™ PBT7100 industrial readers to support a move toward automated inventory tracking.

Working with system integrator Exagile, Datalogic helped ATM deploy kiosk-based workflows where operators scan badge IDs and spare parts bar codes to update SAP-connected inventory records in real time. The result was reduced errors, improved workflow and visibility, leaner spare parts management, and less downtime for maintenance vehicles, while also streamlining reporting and increasing operator satisfaction.
