Procter and Gamble uses RFID to track product

Procter and Gamble (P&G) needed a highly reliable inventory and shipping-tracking solution for its shipping department in Jijona, Alicante, Spain. In a fast-paced operation loading 33 pallets every 20 minutes, the company had to prevent costly mistakes such as loading the wrong pallet onto the wrong truck or losing pallets, while also supporting paired pallet handling and traditional staging with a zero-error requirement.

Datalogic’s EMS RFID solution was selected over handheld scanning after testing showed hand scanning would take 40% longer and require extra mirrors for line-of-sight. Datalogic implemented forklift-mounted LRP820-04 conveyor-style antennas, LRP250 tags embedded in the floor, and fixed barcode readers to track pallets from production to dock doors; the system gave operators real-time visibility on product movement and location, improved loading accuracy, and created a durable tracking grid with 90 floor tags and 8.5-inch read range.
