A Datalogic Case Study
The Medicine Centre, a pharmaceutical distributor serving long-term care facilities in the United States, needed a way to reduce medication reordering errors and eliminate inefficient fax-based ordering. Working with Datalogic, they looked for a cordless, durable, easy-to-use scanning solution that could support an “error-free” process for nurses and pharmacy staff.
Datalogic implemented its PowerScan handheld readers, along with a tailored ordering application and later Gryphon scanners for smaller customers, to enable barcode-based reordering. Nurses simply scanned a prescription label when stock ran low, sending orders instantly and accurately to The Medicine Centre; after a one-month pilot, the system was deemed a success. The result was a faster, more reliable process that eliminated fax-related issues, improved adoption in care facilities, and gave The Medicine Centre a new marketing advantage.
