Maklaus - Customer Case Study

Maklaus, a leading Italian manufacturer of machinery for stretch film processing and laser perforation, needed a way to improve quality control on its micro-drilling production. Its machines create holes just 50 to 200 microns wide at speeds of up to 300 m/min, making defects impossible to spot by eye and forcing operators to stop the line for manual checks, which caused waste and slowdowns. To address this, Maklaus worked with Datalogic.

Datalogic provided MX-E vision processors with IMPACT software and fast E-Series cameras to inspect the film in real time. The system checks that punching is performed, measures hole diameter, and automatically stops the machine if no punching is detected, while also adjusting laser power to keep hole size on target. As a result, Maklaus boosted production, improved product quality, avoided stop-overs for two consecutive shifts, expanded its customer portfolio, and helped customers increase profit through higher output.
