Mail Handling International verifies 2.6 million envelopes with Datalogic

Mail Handling International faced a challenge when a client’s demand for personalized direct mail surged from 50 to over 100,000 items daily. They needed to automate their enclosure process while guaranteeing 100% accuracy, ensuring each uniquely printed letter was matched and inserted into its corresponding hand-addressed envelope. To address this, MHI worked with vendor Datalogic, implementing the Datalogic Matrix 300N barcode readers for a high-speed matching solution.

The solution involved installing two Datalogic Matrix 300N readers on a new insertion machine. These devices scanned matching barcodes on each letter and envelope in real-time, with a control system verifying the match and halting the machine immediately for any error. The results were highly successful, with the system processing 2.6 million envelopes in two months and verifying over 4 matches per second, eliminating manual checks and costly reprints while providing a full audit trail.
