LSG Food & Nonfood Handel, which manages airport shops, faced a challenge with slow checkout times. Their single-plane barcode scanners required items, loyalty cards, and mobile phones to be positioned perfectly, causing customer queues. To address this, Dirk Glasmacher of LSG sought a multi-plane scanning solution from vendor Datalogic.

Datalogic implemented its Magellan 9800i digital imaging scanner, which uses omnidirectional reading to capture barcodes from any angle. This solution drastically reduced queue times and improved the customer experience. The integrated scale also reduced weighing loss by up to three percent, increasing operational effectiveness for the airport retailer.
