Case Study: Köln/Bonn Airport streamlines baggage handling with Datalogic barcode reading systems

A Datalogic Case Study

Preview of the Köln/Bonn Airport Case Study

Köln/Bonn Airport updates for the new millennium thanks to Datalogic and Vanderlande

Köln/Bonn Airport, one of the largest airports in Germany, faced the challenge of updating its infrastructure to handle a significant increase in passenger traffic from 5 million to 11 million per year. Their goal was to maintain a high service level while managing a much larger volume of luggage. To achieve this, the airport partnered with system integrator Vanderlande and vendor Datalogic to implement a new, advanced baggage handling system.

Datalogic provided a comprehensive scanning solution that included 36 DS8100 super scanners in three reading tunnels and 55 rugged DLL6010-M1 handheld readers. This system ensured the accurate and efficient sorting and tracking of luggage throughout the new terminal. The successful implementation, a key part of the airport's major expansion, allowed it to seamlessly handle the increased capacity of over 3000 luggage items during peak hours, meeting the needs of its growing passenger traffic.
