A Datalogic Case Study
Foodstuffs South Island Ltd, a major grocery wholesaler and co-op, needed to declutter its point-of-sale checkout stations across over 100 stores. The challenge was to create a standardized, cleaner look while also meeting New Zealand regulations that required scales to be visible to both the customer and the operator simultaneously. They partnered with Datalogic to find a solution using their Magellan scanner/scale products.
Datalogic's Magellan bi-optic scanners integrated the scale function directly into the existing LCD screens, eliminating the need for separate display units. This innovative solution, a first for the region, was approved by regulators. The implementation modernized over 620 checkout stations, saving on hardware costs and creating a more flexible, customer-friendly checkout experience. Datalogic and partner Gilbarco provided the expertise that enabled Foodstuffs South Island to successfully achieve its vision.
