Fourth Generation Supermarket Chain Selects Magellan Bi-Optic Scanners for the Fourth Time

Price Chopper, a large supermarket chain in the northeastern U.S., sought to upgrade its point-of-sale systems for new LEED-certified stores. The challenge was to find a new scanner from Datalogic that would support modern GS1 DataBar codes, have extremely low energy consumption to support sustainability goals, and remain cost-effective to uphold the company's low-price promise.

Datalogic implemented its Magellan 8400 bi-optic scanner, which met all three key requirements. The solution provided advanced scanning capabilities for new bar codes and reduced power consumption to an average of 7 watts, a significant decrease from previous models. As a result, Price Chopper enhanced its store operations, advanced toward its LEED Gold Certification, and maintained its commitment to customer value without increasing costs.
