Ford streams 1,600 RFID tags across 20 antennas with Datalogic

Ford faced a significant challenge at its high-volume Cuautitlan production facility, where an outdated manual paper tracking system for vehicles was causing frequent errors, costly mistakes like painting cars the wrong color, and major quality control difficulties. The vendor Datalogic Automation was consulted to provide a more precise and automated identification solution using RFID technology.

Datalogic Automation implemented a system using its high-temperature LRP250HT RFID tags, LRP-08 antennas, and LRP820 readers. The tags were mounted on vehicle skids with custom Teflon brackets to withstand extreme heat and prevent interference. This solution allowed Ford to accurately track each vehicle through production, eliminating errors and manual updates. The result was a highly efficient, automated routing and identification system that significantly improved quality control and evolved Ford's production capabilities.
