Foodstuffs South Island Ltd upgrades 620 checkout stations with Datalogic

Foodstuffs South Island Ltd, a major grocery co-op in New Zealand, faced a challenge in modernizing its point-of-sale checkout stations across over 100 stores. The goal was to remove clutter, achieve a consistent look, and comply with regulations requiring visible scale displays for customers and operators. They partnered with vendor Datalogic to address this using Magellan™ bi-optic scanner/scales.

The solution from Datalogic involved integrating the Magellan scale data directly onto customer and operator LCD screens, eliminating separate scale displays. This required a unique application to meet regulatory approvals. As a result, FSSI achieved a clean "dream checkout" configuration, upgraded over 620 stations, saved on hardware costs, and created a flexible, Australasian-first solution that improved customer engagement.
