Datalogic’s MAGELLAN 3200VSi Scanner Helps Provide Assistance for Mobility-Impaired Passengers at Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome

Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), the operator of Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport, faced a significant challenge in managing the transfer of hundreds of mobility-impaired passengers daily. Their assistance service relied on a cumbersome paper-based system to track passengers and ensure they made their connecting flights on time, which often led to confusion and operational difficulties during peak hours. To address this, they partnered with vendor Datalogic.

Datalogic implemented a solution using their Magellan 3200VSi on-counter scanner connected to a custom software system. By scanning a passenger's boarding pass, the system instantly provides operators with all necessary details and tracks the passenger's progress in real-time. This Datalogic solution dramatically increased efficiency, eliminated waiting lines, and provided better organization, allowing ADR to seamlessly handle up to 1,500 assistance requests per day.
