A Datalogic Case Study
Toyota South Africa, a market leader in vehicle manufacturing and sales, needed to replace its manual Job Card tracking system because it was too slow, error-prone, and unable to provide real-time WIP, stock control, or financial visibility. To meet these challenges, Toyota evaluated several tracking options and selected Datalogic Automation RFID as the most viable solution for its harsh automotive environment and budget requirements.
Datalogic Automation implemented an RFID-based Automatic Tracking System using fourteen HMS820 Passive Reader/Writers, one MM80 MicroMux Bus module, and 500 HMS150HT high-temperature tags. The solution delivered real-time vehicle tracking through the paint process, improved maintenance tracking for dollies and hangers, and supported Toyota’s goal of extending tracking into body, assembly, and distribution; the tags also withstood oven temperatures up to 215°C and helped reduce delays such as the previous three-day stock hold in the distribution yard.
