ACME Drugs, a veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturer in Italy, needed a way to fully trace products through production and the supply chain to comply with legislation requiring bar code-based identification of veterinary medicines. To meet this challenge, ACME turned to Datalogic and its PowerScan PM8500 bar code reader for track-and-trace operations.

Datalogic implemented the PowerScan PM8500 as part of an automated Auto ID system, enabling reliable 2D scanning, real-time data transfer, and rugged performance in ACME’s production environment. The new solution improved warehouse management, production monitoring, and traceability, helped ACME automate pharmaceutical handling, and recouped about 30% of warehouse space while reducing the risk of using the wrong raw materials.
