Continental boosts tire traceability and reads 40,000–80,000 tires a day with Datalogic

Continental, a worldwide leader in tire production, faced a significant challenge in its manufacturing process. Their previous laser-based system could not effectively read the low aspect ratio codes on tires, especially after the vulcanization and spray treatments degraded the codes' quality. This resulted in a low read rate, requiring costly manual handling for no-read items and frequent maintenance. To improve traceability and achieve maximum production efficiency, Continental sought a superior and stable identification solution from vendor Datalogic.

Datalogic implemented its STS400™ solution, which is based on the MATRIX 410™ image-based ID reader. This system was extremely simple to install and integrate, requiring no special tools or training. The solution provided the highest read rates, eliminating manual handling and reducing maintenance. Datalogic's technology ensured stable and predictable operations, which was crucial for Continental as it planned to replicate the solution across its global production plants.
