A Datalogic Case Study
Canada Post, one of Canada’s largest delivery providers, needed to modernize parcel processing at its Gateway Bulk Mail Facility in Mississauga to support growth in the parcel business. The company wanted to reduce cycle time, improve sorting efficiency, and redesign operations around barcode-based automation, loose-loading, and leaner material handling. To address this challenge, Canada Post chose Datalogic and its fixed-position scanning technology, including the DS8100 and DX8200.
Datalogic implemented an automated scanning solution using omni-directional laser scanners mounted over induction conveyors and sorter cells to read barcodes on all five sides of parcels. The modular, high-speed system improved barcode capture, supported direct induction-to-dispatch sorting, reduced forklift and tractor usage, freed up facility space, and helped Canada Post streamline product flow and lower processing costs. The new process also improved streaming and increased the potential for cubing parcels, while helping stabilize operations for future parcel growth.
