AZ Surgelati S.p.a. - Customer Case Study

AZ Surgelati S.p.a., an Italian manufacturing leader in frozen pizzas, needed a reliable way to verify that the “best before” date was correctly printed on every frozen pizza package. The company turned to Datalogic, using the Datalogic Automation DataVS1 vision sensor to catch missing, unreadable, or low-contrast date codes caused by ink-jet printing issues.

Datalogic implemented a vision-based inspection system on the conveyor line, triggered by a photocell, to capture each package and run an edge count check on the printed date area. With configurable inspection zones, thresholds, and up to 20 selectable recipes, the solution improved flexibility and monitoring while delivering robust performance despite light variations. The result was real-time detection of printing failures on every package, helping AZ Surgelati avoid waste from delayed or random checks and maintain effective quality control.
