Automated bottle identification at Goody Goody Liquor

Goody Goody Liquor, a Dallas-based Class B liquor distributor, needed to improve a manual order processing and tax stamp labeling operation that required up to eight employees and was time-consuming, error-prone, and vulnerable to theft. Datalogic technology was part of the automation project, with Matrix 2000 barcode scanners used to identify bottles as they moved through the process.

Datalogic’s barcode scanners were integrated into a Cornerstone Automation Systems (CASI) automated order processing system that also included conveyors, vision systems, a label applicator, and conveyor control software. The solution automated bottle identification, tax stamp application, OCR capture, and label verification, while diverting exceptions for unreadable barcodes or verification failures. Goody Goody Liquor reported dramatically faster order processing, significantly reduced shipping errors, reduced headcount, and a major service improvement, saying they went from “the worst service in Dallas” to “the best” in one year.
