Provincie Noord-Holland Scaling Data Science in the Public Sector

Provincie Noord-Holland launched an initiative to become more data‑driven but faced limited tooling, expertise, and a closed IT environment that slowed projects and made it hard to scale analytics across departments. After hiring a first data scientist, the province evaluated options and adopted a Dataiku license and platform to enable collaborative data science and build in‑house capabilities.

Using Dataiku’s unified platform, PNH moved analyses in‑house for use cases like meadow‑bird monitoring, traffic‑light optimization, and field productivity/compliance, applying machine learning and richer datasets (e.g., week‑before/after traffic data split into 15‑minute intervals). The results: analyses that once took years now take weeks, more granular and defensible performance measurement, standardized processes, reduced reliance on external vendors, and improved cross‑team collaboration — all driven by Dataiku.
