How The Law Society of BC Uses Dataiku for Risk Ranking and Anomaly Detection

The Law Society of British Columbia, which regulates roughly 13,000 lawyers and 3,800 law firms, wanted to increase the efficacy of its trust assurance audit program by unlocking decades of historical data to identify risk and detect anomalies. To modernize analytics, prioritize audits by risk, and reduce human error, The Law Society of British Columbia partnered with Dataiku and used Dataiku’s platform (initially its free edition) to explore predictive analytics and machine learning.

Using Dataiku’s end‑to‑end tools for data connection, visual ETL, AutoML, model comparison and visualization, the team built risk‑ranking and anomaly‑detection workflows that flag high‑risk firms and drive a risk‑driven audit schedule. The work enabled faster anomaly detection and more efficient audits: The Law Society of British Columbia reports a 14% reduction in auditors needed per large audit and a 29% reduction in time to complete a large audit, outcomes achieved through their algorithmic approach supported and accelerated by Dataiku.
