Newcastle City Council lends 40 Chromebooks with Datagraphic to boost digital access

Newcastle City Council faced a significant challenge with digital access, as many individuals lacked a reliable device for essential tasks like job applications, studying, and accessing services. Partnering with vendor Datagraphic, the council sought to support its existing 'Get Newcastle Online' digital inclusion programme and remove this barrier for the community.

Datagraphic funded a practical solution by providing 40 Chromebooks for a lending scheme at Newcastle City Library. The results were immediate and impactful, with the initial pilot devices fully booked and a waiting list of 10 people. Shortly after more units were delivered, 32 of the 40 Chromebooks were on loan. The measurable impact includes members successfully using the devices to secure employment, complete qualifications, and stay connected, demonstrating the initiative filled a critical need.
