The Chamber of Shipping, a member-funded trade association, faced significant challenges with its outdated character-based UNIX accounting system, Tetra. The inflexible platform restricted their accounting processes, struggled with multiple currencies, and could not provide the powerful reporting they required, all while managing a sprawling chart of accounts with over 2,000 nominal headings. They sought a new solution and selected the DataFlow accounting system.

Implementing DataFlow allowed the Chamber to completely rebuild its financial structure around cost centres, drastically reducing its nominal headings from over 2,000 to just 150. The DataFlow system provided multi-company consolidation and the ability to report in three currencies simultaneously. As a result, the Chamber now produces management reports in a fraction of the time previously required. The chief accountant noted that DataFlow was extremely cost-effective, as rival systems up to three or four times more expensive could not match its specification.
