How to Increase Your Shopify Store Profit with Data Feed Optimization

Shopify faced limits with the native Shopify Google Ads app when trying to improve Google Shopping performance: they needed to optimize campaigns by profit (including cost of goods sold), avoid wasting spend on out-of-stock main sizes, and stand out with new products. To solve this, they turned to DataFeedWatch, a data feed optimization vendor, to access richer product fields and apply advanced feed rules and labels.

DataFeedWatch migrated and mapped Shopify product fields (including cost) to Google Ads, used Shopify tags plus DataFeedWatch rules to exclude products missing the main size, and created custom labels to boost new items in dedicated campaigns. As a result, Shopify could bid on gross profit instead of just revenue, uncovered margin differences that changed supplier focus, automated tagging to save time, and lowered ad costs — achieving the same revenue with about 10–15% lower ad spend while improving ROAS.
