A Dataedo Case Study
Accuro Health Insurance, a New Zealand‑owned not‑for‑profit insurer with about 30,000 members, faced the risk of losing critical institutional knowledge because its ICT team was small (two developers and a BI analyst) and maintained bespoke core systems and a small data warehouse. After evaluating options and deciding against building an in‑house tool, Accuro selected Dataedo as their documentation solution to capture metadata, relationships and system details so knowledge would survive staff turnover and be easier to share.
Dataedo was implemented to document the database back end, map relations (including those not defined in the DB), add rich descriptions, group objects and track decommissioned/renamed columns, with documentation updated at every release. The result is that Dataedo speeds up BI and data‑warehouse development, helps developers find documented data quickly, reduces dependency on individual team members, improves communication with third parties and makes progress easy to track.
