Monitoring That Scales With a Decentralizing and Growing Development Team

Bazaarvoice, which turns user-generated content into insights for retailers and brands, scaled its development organization from about 30 to over 200 engineers and moved to decentralized, product-focused teams. That shift accelerated innovation but made monitoring a growing, heterogeneous infrastructure difficult: legacy tools would have forced each team to host and manage its own monitoring (more than 50 servers), learn specialized monitoring domain knowledge, and operate with inconsistent metrics and naming conventions.

Bazaarvoice adopted Datadog for its out-of-the-box integrations and easy-to-use interface, enabling teams to create custom metrics and dashboards while correlating on-prem, public, and private cloud data in one place. The result is unified, flexible monitoring that provides consistent, consumable data for engineers and senior leaders, faster incident response, and the ability to scale observability alongside a rapidly growing, decentralized development organization.
