Case Study: Drupal achieves centralized monitoring and improved uptime with Datadog

A Datadog Case Study

Preview of the Drupal Case Study

How Datadog helps keep the Drupal project's sites and services running

Drupal.org (run by the Drupal Association) supports a large, evolving open source ecosystem with a complex mix of VMware, bare‑metal and cloud hosts, a global CDN, eight production Drupal sites, CI systems, code hosting, search, backups and more. Monitoring that diverse stack had become fragmented across five ad hoc tools, producing redundant alerts, gaps in coverage, and high administrative overhead that made it hard to separate signal from noise.

The team standardized on Datadog, deploying the Datadog Agent via Puppet and using many built‑in integrations (Jenkins, Fastly, New Relic, etc.) to centralize metrics, dashboards and alerts into Slack/IRC/OpsGenie. That unified view — from CDN errors to MySQL and I/O metrics — improved troubleshooting and signal clarity, reduced maintenance effort, and helped boost the reliability, resilience and performance of Drupal’s sites and services.
