Case Study: NICE SHOES achieves real-time, 24x7 collaborative media workflows with DataDirect Networks

A DataDirect Networks Case Study

Preview of the NICE SHOES Case Study

Studio Accelerates Content-Intensive, Multi-User Concurrent Media Production Workflow

Nice Shoes is a New York City–based, artist-driven design, animation, VFX and color-grading studio working 24/7 for high-profile brands and projects in HD, 2K, 4K and 3D. Facing tight deadlines and highly collaborative, round-the-clock workflows, the studio’s direct-attached storage had become a series of slow “islands” that required manual data moves, caused downtime and frame drops, and couldn’t scale or fit the studio’s dense, cost-sensitive colocation environment.

Nice Shoes deployed DDN’s high-performance clustered file-storage system to centralize data, provide guaranteed QoS and concurrent cross-platform access, and scale non-disruptively for current and future workflows. The result: eliminated storage islands and manual transfers, much higher uptime and real-time editing across workstations, a smaller, more energy-efficient footprint, and reduced management costs and TCO—accelerating production and boosting creative productivity.
