SK Telecom delivers 200x faster GPUaaS latency with DataDirect Networks

The customer, SK Telecom (SKT), South Korea's leading telecommunications company, faced the challenge of scaling AI for enterprises grappling with exploding model sizes, larger datasets, and the need to maximize GPU utilization. To address this, SKT partnered with vendor DataDirect Networks to build a pioneering GPU as a Service (GPUaaS) offering, which required a high-performance storage backbone to support its Petasus AI Cloud.

DataDirect Networks implemented its EXAScaler storage solution as the core of the GPUaaS platform. This provided SKT with a scalable, high-performance Lustre-based parallel file system, resulting in low-latency data access that is 200x faster than the competition, near bare-metal performance, and high GPU utilization. The solution enabled on-demand GPU access, flexible deployment models, and operational efficiency, allowing SKT to offer a commercial-grade GPUaaS with telco-grade reliability.
