Roche cuts genome analysis time by 7X with DataDirect Networks

Roche, a world-leading biotech company and provider of in-vitro diagnostics, faced a massive data challenge as its genome sequencing instruments generated up to 2PB of data every 24 hours. Its fully cloud-based strategy became too slow and cumbersome, forcing researchers to discard 99% of their data and wait over two weeks for critical experiment results. To address this, Roche partnered with DataDirect Networks (DDN) for a new storage solution.

DataDirect Networks implemented its A³I storage with NVIDIA H100 GPUs, providing an end-to-end solution with a small footprint. This allowed Roche to process data rapidly and keep far more of it for analysis. The solution decreased analysis turnaround time by more than 7x, from 15 days to just 2 days, and reduced the amount of data uploaded to the cloud by 100x.
