A DataDirect Networks Case Study
Anyang City Hall, serving a 620,000‑person city south of Seoul, launched an initiative to cut street crime, ease traffic and improve disaster response by deploying an intelligent video surveillance system across its 23‑square‑mile metro area. The city needed a storage backend that could ingest and stream hundreds to thousands of high‑definition video feeds with the highest throughput and reliability, extreme scalability in a small data‑center footprint, and the lowest possible total cost of ownership to avoid dropped frames or data corruption that would hinder policing and emergency response.
Anyang selected DDN’s high‑performance storage, initially a half‑petabyte system that can scale to multiple petabytes (up to 4.8PB in two racks) and deliver up to 6 GB/s throughput with parallel processing, distributed cache and robust fault tolerance. The deployment eliminated streaming glitches and supported continuous operation with low power and space requirements; within two years it scaled to 1,300 cameras, enabled investigation of 1,867 video streams and helped resolve 83 crimes while improving traffic response times and keeping expansion costs low.
