A DataDirect Networks Case Study
The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) in Kalyani, India, conducts genome-based research into human disease, including a major International Cancer Genome Consortium study of oral cancer that generates massive datasets (over 1 TB per patient and hundreds of terabytes overall). NIBMG’s legacy block storage couldn’t keep up—ingest and HPC workflows stalled, concurrent jobs often failed, disks repeatedly failed (including a catastrophic data loss) and publishing timelines were delayed.
NIBMG replaced that platform with DataDirect Networks (SFA12K, GRIDScaler parallel file system and WOS object storage), gaining much higher throughput, reliability and scale. The new stack cut data ingest and pipeline times dramatically (project processing shortened from as much as a year to roughly three–four months), enabled about twice as many concurrent jobs (roughly 40 samples at once), provided petabyte-scale archival and collaboration capabilities, and helped accelerate discovery of new genes and pathways in oral cancer.
