Kollins Communications Speeds HighEnd Video Production to Help Customers Like Samsung Blaze a New Trail in Retail Marketing

Kollins Communications, a Ramsey, NJ-based video production house that creates POS display videos, in-store commercials and 3D product animation for clients like Samsung, faced an urgent brief to produce 20+ UHD/SUHD 4K videos in four weeks. The project required real-time editing of high‑res 4K/HDR footage across OS X, Windows and Linux (including Autodesk Flame), large online retention, faster inter-station transfers, and the ability to stream three uncompressed 4K feeds simultaneously—capabilities their existing 1GbE network and storage could not support.

Kollins deployed DDN’s MEDIAScaler (initially 400 TB with petabyte-scale growth), upgraded to high‑speed networking and InfiniBand, and worked with DDN support to enable cross-platform sharing. The result: up to 5 GB/s ingest and rendering, a reduction in moving a 3‑minute 4K clip from about one hour to ~10 minutes, reliable simultaneous streaming of three 4K streams, faster turnarounds that met the Samsung deadline, and scalable performance to support future UHD/HDR projects.
