Ddn’s Ime Exceeds 1tb/S for Japan’s Fastest Supercomputer

DDN Storage partnered with the Joint Center for Advanced High Performance Computing (JCAHPC) to equip Oakforest‑PACS, Japan’s fastest supercomputer, with the extreme I/O capability needed for large‑scale computational science, big data analytics and machine‑learning workloads. The challenge was to sustain very high simultaneous write performance as tens of thousands of processes wrote to the same files and to explore requirements for future Exascale systems.

DDN deployed its IME flash‑native data cache and SFA storage solutions to accelerate workflow I/O. The result was effective I/O performance exceeding 1 TB/s (with a 1.5 TB/s file‑system demonstration), enabling JCAHPC researchers to improve modeling, advance system architecture studies, and meet demanding parallel write workloads.
