Cable Public Affairs Channel - Customer Case Study

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada’s bilingual, non‑profit public affairs broadcaster delivering live and on‑demand programming to more than 11 million homes and via 24/7 streaming. Facing exponential growth—about 4 TB of daily content ingest, 80 hours of new material per day and a 400‑tape archive nearing capacity—CPAC struggled with the cost, labor and unreliability of a tape‑based HSM archive and needed scalable, high‑performance storage plus robust disaster recovery and backup.

CPAC replaced tape with an end‑to‑end DDN solution—SFA12K for production and WOS object storage (with CIFS gateway and ObjectAssure)—fully integrated with its Dalet media asset manager. The unified platform increased usable capacity to more than 1 PB, halved archive retrieval times, eliminated most administration, enabled offsite mirroring for DR and IT backup, and delivered rapid payback through lower operating costs and improved uptime.
