University Hospital Frankfurt manages 1.2 PB of storage with Datacore

The University Hospital Frankfurt faced a challenge in 2006 while digitizing vast amounts of medical image and patient data. They needed a new storage infrastructure that guaranteed high availability and performance for critical systems like PACS, while also providing long-term investment security and freedom from hardware vendor lock-in.

DataCore addressed this with its software-defined storage solution, SANsymphony, implemented in 2006. The solution created a highly available, virtualized storage platform across two data centers, featuring synchronous mirroring, auto-failover, and performance enhancements through Flash integration and auto-tiering. DataCore's solution provided excellent system availability, allowed the hospital to extend hardware lifecycles across multiple generations, and simplified non-disruptive migrations. This resulted in significant cost savings, greater hardware purchasing flexibility, and a robust, high-performance central storage platform managing over 1.2 petabytes of data.
