Total Wine & More, the largest privately‑owned fine wine retailer in the U.S., was hitting capacity and performance limits on its existing EMC SAN and wanted to avoid a costly rip‑and‑replace. To address this, Total Wine & More deployed DataCore SANsymphony storage virtualization software to virtualize and accelerate its EMC SAN and add high availability for its Microsoft Hyper‑V environment.

DataCore virtualized the retailer’s mixed storage estate (FC, DAS, iSCSI), creating a 10 TB virtualized data pool that serves about 230 corporate users plus store employees and enabled a core SQL database to scale from ~200 corporate users to an additional 1,500 field users without new SAN hardware. DataCore increased storage utilization to over 80%, boosted database performance via caching, and delivered mirrored SAN redundancy for higher uptime and future disaster recovery—producing measurable growth, performance and cost savings.
