Rocklin Unified School District - Customer Case Study

Rocklin Unified School District, a California district serving about 10,000 students and 1,200 staff, needed a storage area network that would make it easy to provision, migrate and move virtual machines while providing high availability and disaster recovery for its VMware and Citrix infrastructure. To avoid costly, hardware‑locked arrays, Rocklin turned to DataCore and its SANmelody virtual SAN to gain storage flexibility and fault‑tolerant protection.

DataCore, working with partner AccessFlow, implemented SANmelody in a two‑node, fault‑tolerant configuration with high‑speed synchronous mirroring and planned long‑distance asynchronous replication, delivering thin provisioning and centralized management for more than 3 TB of virtual capacity. The solution sped server rollouts (Rocklin reported provisioning a new library server in about an hour), consolidated storage, improved utilization across dozens of servers, and reduced the need for additional physical machines while supporting the district’s VMware/Citrix virtualization goals.
