ow 1st Basis Consulting Created a High-Speed, Cost-Efficient Virtual SAN for SAP HANA Host Environments

1st Basis Consulting, an SAP- and VMware-certified partner that offers managed services and SAP HANA hosting, needed a cost-effective, high-performance SAN to support growing test/dev and production SAP HANA virtual environments. After determining a physical SAN would be prohibitively expensive, partner MNJ Technologies recommended DataCore’s Hyperconverged Virtual SAN software to provide flexible, vendor-agnostic storage that could use customer-selected NVMe drives and scale without forklift upgrades.

DataCore deployed its Hyperconverged Virtual SAN on two Dell PowerEdge R7425 hosts in a high-availability configuration and presented storage to both local and external VMware hosts. The DataCore solution cut SAP HANA database startup from ~20 minutes to 5 minutes, reduced VMware hosts from 12 to 7, supported 100–120 VMs with much higher IOPS, delivered nearly $100,000 in cost savings, and eliminated vendor lock-in while enabling easy future storage expansion.
