Maimonides Medical Center’s Quest for Operational Continuity Via Real-Time Data Accessibility

Maimonides Medical Center, a 705–706‑bed non-profit teaching hospital in Brooklyn, faced rapidly growing, fragmented storage demands as clinicians required real-time, always-on access to EMRs, imaging, prescription and research data while meeting HIPAA and disaster‑recovery requirements. To avoid downtime and eliminate single points of failure, the hospital sought a software-defined storage partner and turned to DataCore for a scalable, highly available storage platform.

DataCore deployed its software‑defined storage as an active‑active SAN across two sites, virtualizing tier‑one Fibre Channel and high‑density SATA pools and managing roughly 1 PB of virtualized storage (approximately 2 PB total capacity across four mirrored node pairs). The DataCore solution consolidated storage management, enabled metro‑clustering and replication for disaster recovery, eliminated lapses from hardware failures and maintenance, and delivered faster access and increased server capacity—supporting some 5,000 users, 400+ physical servers and roughly 300 virtual servers while helping the hospital maintain continuous, near‑100% uptime.
