Lakota Local School District - Customer Case Study

Lakota Local School District, a large suburban district in southwestern Ohio serving over 18,000 students, faced disk capacity constraints, cooling and power problems in its central data center as it expanded. To address these issues the district and integrator LAN Solutions chose DataCore storage virtualization (SANmelody) alongside VMware server virtualization to reduce physical footprint and improve utilization of servers and storage.

DataCore implemented SANmelody on off‑the‑shelf servers to create a virtual storage pool and synchronously replicate the district’s most critical 3 TB of data (out of 12 TB total) to a new disaster‑recovery site over a 10 Gbps fiber link. The DataCore solution made storage appear as one shared resource accessible from either site, enabled DR servers to take over during outages or maintenance, and delivered measurable power, cooling and space savings plus added redundancy.
