Jena Optronik, a Thuringia-based space company specializing in position control and multispectral research, needed online long-term archiving (20+ years) for production, design and sensor data with regular processing and high availability — but without tape or a document management system. After rejecting costly traditional archives and slow cloud options, Jena Optronik turned to DataCore Software and its software-defined storage platform, expanding its existing SANsymphony environment with SANsymphony BULK for cost-efficient archival capacity.

DataCore Software deployed two SANsymphony nodes for production and two SANsymphony BULK servers on HPE/D2600 shelves within a redundant fibre‑channel infrastructure, enabling online access, synchronous mirroring for high availability, and flexible expansion in 100 TB steps. The solution delivered a homogeneous, hardware‑independent archive that fulfills the 20+ year retention requirement, maintains required performance and fail‑safety, and significantly reduces expansion costs versus high‑end or cloud alternatives.
